A hot barren land filled with sand dunes and imposing rocky canyons, the Dawning Dunes region is not for the faint of heart. When first entering the region from the south travelers will find themselves traveling through the canyons. These tall rocky canyons act as a source of shade from the harsh desert heat. However, be warned within these shade dangers lurk. A plethora of native wildlife would gladly take a bite out of any reckless travelers. The canyon's geography can also be simply hard to navigate, leaving the inexperienced easily lost. Despite the dangers, the top of the canyons are the location of an unusual city. Instead of hiding from the sun's might, these canyon folk built their city in full view of the celestial object. Little is known about these canyon folk as they rarely show themselves and reaching the cities is quite difficult for ones who don’t know the proper path.

The dunes section of the desert looks barren and deserted. With nothing on the surface but sparse desert vegetation, sand dunes and the occasional oasis. However, what life is lacking on the surface can be found beneath the dunes. A race of reptilian humanoids known as the Churn dwell in giant underground tunnels. These tunnels are dug out by massive burrowing serpentine Umbras, known as the Desert Shifters. While these reptiles are dangerous they share a unique bond with the Churn. It is believed that the Churn were created long ago by the magic of the Desert Shifter, thus the Churn regard them as gods. In return for this worship the Shifters act as guardians for the Churn. The area of the desert with the highest concentration of Churn and Desert Shifters is known as the Screaming Sand. Thanks to the high pitched almost screaming sound the Shifters make while burrowing through the dunes. This is why all native wildlife in the region fears the sound of the screaming sands. Well except for maybe full grown Exodaunts, these massive pachyderms are so large even Desert Shifters are hesitant to attack them.

There is a surface city to the northernmost area of the desert known as Sunsplint. This city is the reason most travelers visit the desert in the first place. While the city itself is not very impressive it is a haven for the spiritual citizens of Veargreum. Which is why many pilgrimages are made to the city in hopes to become closer to the gods. Not only that but Sunsplint is the location of a very popular cultural and musical festival. This event attracts citizens from all over Veargreum looking to participate in what is known as the biggest party of the year. Whether it be looming canyons, giant snakes or crazy parties the Dawning Dunes are a palace of both wonder and danger.
