Thundering across the searing desert are animals so large they literally split sand dunes in half. Striding along on four sturdy pillar shaped legs and a set of giant tusks are the Exodaunts. These herd dwelling herbivores are the resident titans of the Dawning Dunes deserts. Even top predators like the notorious Desert Shifter would hesitate to attack a herd of these giants. Typically Exodaunts spend their days traveling the desert from oasis to oasis in search of fresh water. While making these long journeys they keep cool using their feathered tails that provide them with both shade and a pleasant breeze. However, if the herd goes too long before finding an oasis they will simply make a new one. Their massive tusks are shaped in such a way that they make excellent shovels. These shovel-like tusks allow them to dig down into the desert sand until they discover hidden ground water. Not only that but because their mouths are actually at the end of their long trunks there is no danger of them swallowing sand while digging. After the Exodaunts have their fill of water they will then move on to other oases. Not before planting seeds that they carried from other oases. See these are no simple creatures by highly intelligent beings that have a rudimentary understanding of agriculture. Therefore the Exodaunts make sure to never completely drain an oasis of water and to plant seeds. That way they can simply return to this spot at a later time and reap the benefits of a new oasis. This habit has led natives of the desert to often follow herds of Exodaunts both for protection from predators and dehydration. What one might find odd about traveling with a herd of exodaunts is you never see any juveniles. This is because typically a young Exodaunt will spend its early years sheltering in one of the herds' many oases. Then when they are big and strong enough they will join the main herds migrations.
