Animal Generators
This underground city is located beneath the capital city of Avarice within the Gloom. The creation of Evenfall is all thanks to the wizards of Avarice, detecting a sizable magical energy beneath their city. This led to the government of Avarice ordering several expeditions into the Gloom beneath the city. Here the expeditions discovered that the source of magical energy seemed to be a giant gemstone breaking out from the cavern floor. Upon further investigation the expeditioners realized this gemstone was actually a crystallized barrier leading into a pocket dimension, now known as The Well. After drilling through The Wells crystal barrier the explorers from Avarice also discovered this pocket dimension was rich in magical ores. The city of Avarice, wishing to capitalize on this discovery, began constructing a base camp around The Well. By carving out already existing giant stalagmites the base camp was constructed fairly quickly. With the base camp established, the early citizens of Avarice now had a steady supply of magical ores, mined directly below their city. Over time the base camp around the Well grew and grew. More Stalagmite homes were hollowed out and resources from above were even imported down to create newer structures. Over time the camp resembled more of a functioning town with its own unique architecture, rather than a small worker encampment.

The growth of Evenfall from a small mining camp into a full fledged town was no easy feat. The Gloom is a hazardous realm of shadows and monsters constructed by the darkness god himself. The Well itself is also prone to sudden shifts, which cause random violent tremors. This is why newer buildings are built in a trapezoid like shape, to help prevent collapsing. The sudden tremors also cause water droplets to fall from the cavern ceiling. Most likely, due to the tremors shaking loose water from underground water reservoirs. Despite the danger of the tremors, the magic produced by The Well seems to ward off many of the Glooms inhabitants. This warding allows the citizens of Evenfall to produce dim lights without incurring the wrath of the Glooms inhabitants. The buildings here are also painted with bright colors in order to help them stand out among the dim lights within the city. Even so most light here is produced by bioluminescent fungus and plantlife that already occur within the Gloom. Simply planted throughout the city, in an attempt to create light. These darker conditions have caused the population of Evenfall to be composed of races naturally suited for darker conditions like the Kandjii, Burrowing Saymorans and Spore Steels. Over time the infecting magic of The Well has slowly altered the people living here to be better adapted for the low light conditions. Unfortunately the down side to this is this makes returning to the surface much more difficult. The exposure to increased light causes intense migraines and sunburns. In rare cases some families have even needed medicine and special goggles in order to handle the sun. The low light conditions eventually spawned a new form of written language that relies entirely on feel instead of vision.

Today the relationship between the above city of Avarice and its mirror below Evenfall is tumultuous at best. Evenfall is ruled by a lowly and bitter noble who was appointed governor, and given a battalion of knights from Avarice. Beneath the Governor sit the Lords, also appointed from Avarices aristocracy. Each Lord is granted jurisdiction over a specific subterranean district known as a Deep Lordship: mining zones, fungal farms, crystal caverns, refinery complexes, and the transit arteries that connect them. Like the Governor, they rarely descend for long; most rule from surface estates, treating the Undercity as a managed extension of their wealth and status. In response to generations of exploitation, labourers across Evenfall have begun to organise into a broad, cross-district alliance known as the Workers’ Coalition. The Coalition does not recognise the legitimacy of governance imposed entirely from Avarice without meaningful Evenfall consent. In its internal writings, it describes the current system as a “distance-rule regime,” where power is exercised without presence. From the Governor’s perspective, Evenfall's harsh conditions require strict coordination, and that decentralised worker control would lead to inefficiency, resource collapse, and disorder. The need for consistent trade is the main factor as to why hostilities have not escalated beyond repair. Certain bioluminescent plants, crystal technologies, and rare minerals like Exodeous Ore can only be produced underground. Likewise, many luxury goods, fruit, wood, textiles, livestock, medicines, and most importantly fresh water, must come from the surface. In fact the main fresh water supply to Evenfall comes from an above ground water source in Avarcie that naturally drains down into Evenfall. Avarices tight control on this source of fresh water is unsurprisingly another source of contention for the people of Evenfall. This need for trade has not stopped local rebel groups like “The Children of the Deep Well” from forming in Evenfall. To the governor's authorities, they are vandalizers and kidnappers. To the citizens of Evenfall, they are heroes fighting for the city's independence.

Day to day life in the city for most is centered around working in the mines or other related businesses around the city. When moving around the city citizens rely on special mounts adapted to cave life or the available public transport. The main public transport for Evenfall is a system of old minecart tracks. The inhabitants have modified them to be safer for both cargo and people. However, there are a few tracks that traverse dangerous areas at high speeds and thus are not suited for people transport. The brave few who dare to ride them may find themselves traveling through old ruins, hidden paths and encounter mysterious creatures both dangerous and benign.
