With a landscape as strong and formidable as its people, the Tormek Mountains act as the Dwarven stronghold of Veargreum. While on the surface these mountains seem cold and barren with only a few cities speckled here and there. This is because most of the treasures of Tormek are found beneath its surface. These treasures of course being precious metals and gems. In fact, the majority of gems and minerals distributed throughout the country are mined in these mountains. Mined with both traditional methods and by working in symbiosis with the local Miner Crabs that dwell within the mountains. These large crustaceans love to dig out and collect precious metals to use in their nests. Over time the dwarves of the mountains learned to domesticate these creatures and use them to help dig and transport the treasure.

The metal ores mined here are also put to use in the great forges within the mountains. These forges craft armor, weapons, building materials and more. Whereas the gold, silver and copper found are melted down in the Tormek mints. Creating the standard currency used throughout the country. The Tormek Mountains' vast mineral resources is the reason they are regarded as the second wealthiest region in Veargreum, just below Avarice.
The government structure of Tormek is run by a royal family, with two members of said family forming a Diarchy. While these two rulers have equal power they have distinct functions in which they are in charge of. One ruler is in charge of the military and defense of Tormek whereas the other is in charge of diplomacy and governance of the region's citizens. Despite both rulers having equal power on paper it has long been known that the citizens of Tormek hold far more respect towards the military leader. This is due to the society of Tormek being quite stern and warrior orientated. Thus strong warriors are held in much higher esteem than diplomats. In fact, it is a common tradition for the elderly of Tormek to descend into the deepest depths of the mines when they feel their life is coming to an end. In these depths dangerous creatures lurk in need of exterminating. Therefore elderly dwarves take it upon themselves to thin out these creatures' numbers until they too are slain. This way the elderly dwarves meet a warrior's end while also helping to reduce the population of dangerous creatures who threaten the region. The Tormeks are not a very religious people, so temples are all but vacant from their cities. Meaning once a family member has taken their final descent the remaining family do not seek comfort in clerics or holy sites. Instead they add a new gem to their family's stone crest and get back to work.
