Quillcaps are formidable mushrooms native to the heart of fungal forests, known for their explosive defensive mechanism. When disturbed, their caps rapidly expand outward like a blooming umbrella, launching a flurry of sharp, seed-like thorns in every direction. These mushrooms rarely grow alone; a single detonation often triggers a chain reaction, as nearby Quillcaps erupt in unison. This ingenious adaptation serves a dual purpose: it deters predators while dispersing the mushroom’s seeds. The thorns, designed to either lodge in an attacker’s skin and be carried to new locations or grow directly from a fallen victim, ensure the species' survival. Interestingly, when harvested correctly, the seed-thorns are a culinary delicacy, prized for their unique salty flavor. They are also used as arrowheads by natives of the Fungal Forest who see their utility as weaponry.
This plant is called a Quillcap and lives mostly within the Fungal Forest.
