In the heart of the Severed Wilds Jungle, there lives a species known as the Cleaons. These tall and imposing creatures possess a long slender neck, three giant claws on each hand and a striking reptilian-avian appearance. The Cleaons are not just remarkable for their appearance, but also for their highly organized , matriarchal society.
The Cleaons are split into four castes, the ruler, breeder, warrior, and worker. These castes are carefully chosen and evolved over the centuries, making each member perfectly suited for their role. For example, members of the warrior caste were stronger with larger head frills for protection. This social hierarchy is reflected in their architecture, with the treetop homes being structured into multiple levels stacked on top of each other. The higher ranking members of the caste system live on the upper levels, while the lower castes live below.
Despite their impressive society, the Cleaons are incredibly private, rarely venturing out of their villages and the Severed Wilds jungle. This makes trade and contact with the outside world scarce, and when they do need to deal with outsiders, they prefer to have the traders come to them, either by bridge crystal or some other means of travel. In their villages, they have developed a unique form of currency, utilizing their own feathers that naturally fall off of their bodies. The different types and origins of the feathers also hold more or less currency weight then others. For example, a feather from a ruler caste Cleaon holds much more value than a feather from a worker caste.
The Cleaons live within the tree canopy of the Severed Wilds jungle, but their homes are not simple treehouses. Instead, they utilize druidic magic to work hand in hand with nature. Cleaon Shamans can control the growth and formation of trees and vegetation to shape their homes, interweaving dozens of tree branches together to form bridges and growing massive mushrooms to hold drinking water. At the heart of each Cleaon village is the core tree, the largest and first tree that began the foundation of every village. The matriarch, with the help of the shamans, transforms this tree into a suitable home for herself. After that, the surrounding trees and vegetation are formed into the village, with the Matriarch's tree lying at its center.
