Burgens are towering amalgamations of fungus and decayed plant matter, shambling through the fungal forests in vaguely humanoid shapes. These monstrous entities are born when a significant infestation of Fallout Fungus overtakes a mushroom tree, the radiation from the fungus killing the tree and reanimating its remains into a Burgen. Though rudimentary in intelligence, Burgens exhibit an almost childlike fascination with strength, often crafting massive clubs from fallen wood or stone to test themselves against other Burgens in displays of raw power.
Despite their simple minds, Burgens display an instinctual loyalty to the fungal forest, becoming violently hostile toward outsiders they perceive as threats to their home. Their enormous forms often serve as mobile ecosystems, teeming with smaller wildlife that burrow into their decaying bodies for shelter. As time passes, a Burgen gradually decomposes, its fungal form returning to nourish the soil. All that remains is its once-treasured club, now overtaken by the very fungus that gave the Burgen life—a fitting testament to its fleeting, fungal existence.
This CR3 creature is called a Burgen and is an Undead that lives mostly within the Fungal Forest.
