Hidden beneath the boiling bubbling water of the geysers lurks a powerful ambush predator known as the Melters Maw. Despite having a long muscular body capable of great bursts of explosive speed, It prefers a more devious tactic to hunt its prey. Located on their foreheads is a special water siphon capable of shooting a jet of pressurized scalding water up to 30ft(10 meters) in a straight line. Upon contact this will either scald and kill the prey, or stun it long enough for the Melters Maw to close the distance and finish the kill with its sharp teeth and powerful jaws. It is believed this adaptation came about as a way to hunt airborne prey like Caustic Comets. As without the jet they would be far above the Melter Maws reach. While the Melter is amphibious and is capable of crawling out of the water it prefers to use its front claws to dig into the geyser walls in order to make underground burrows. Sometimes it uses this method to dig into unconnected tide pools, where tasty snacks such as Heloxians may be. The Melters Maws are solitary territorial creatures that do not take kindly to rival Maws in their territory. When encountering a rival they will first try to scare them off by flexing their tall dorsal fins. If that doesn’t work they will snap their jaws to show off their biting force. The jaws of a Melters Maw are no joke, as they are considered stronger than most metals. The snapping of these legendary jaws can be heard from up to a mile away. If none of that works the two Melter's will engage in a fierce battle leaving the loser either dead or scarred. It is only fitting that the apex of these scalding geysers would be just as hot headed as the water itself.
