Within the tide pools surrounding geysers live strange aquatic inhabitants who superficially resemble rodents but are in fact fish. Even their hair is actually just modified scales that give them a more furry appearance from a distance but upon closer inspection they even have a pair of external gills around their necks. Despite this their most unique feature is actually a heat producing organ that raises the temperature of any water source they find themselves in. This along with their water breathing limitations means they can never venture out of the safety of the water. As the water acts as a counterbalance to the excessive heat produced from their special organs. Therefore without the water the Heloxian would die of heat stroke long before succumbing to suffocation. The Heloxians live in large groups of up to 10 individuals in order to protect themselves from predators like the Melters Maw. If a Heloxian is ever threatened, they will expand their large cheek pouches in an attempt to appear larger. Interestingly this technique has also been seen during mating and territorial disputes between males. Whenever their tide pools start to become too cramped, the Heloxians take turns using their long paddlelike tails to widen the confines of the pools. These odd fish are often hunted for their heat producing organ to use in fire related alchemical potions. Other times they are captured alive and relocated to resorts to create artificial hot springs.
This CR1/8 creature is called a Heloxian and is a Beast that lives mostly within the Geysers.
