Despite being hard to spot, Glass Lilies can be found floating in large numbers on the surface of the Opal Sea. Usually they cluster in large groups right above areas of corals that produce nutrient rich water. Growing in these areas provides them with the nutrients they need for growth. It also has led to their unique transparent glassy appearance. Normally plants need certain colors to properly absorb energy from the sun. However, thanks to the corals below the Lilies do not need to rely on the sun's power for photosynthesis. Instead their semi-transparent leaves allow them to float directly above the coral without depriving the coral of precious sunlight.
