Growing within the shade of the tree canopy in Dead Man’s Drop Forest is a strange type of moss. The moss grows in on itself, forming into dense spherical clumps. These clumps are held together by an intricate root system so dense that after enough growth the structure becomes as hard as rocks. Their structural integrity helps deter herbivores from taking a bite out of them. Unfortunately, the trade off for their strength is they grow too heavy to maintain their position in the tree tops. At this point their spherical shape and weight causes them to fall from the tree tops onto the forest floor. Once on the forest floor they make great food sources for ground dwelling crustaceans. These crustaceans are used to eating hard seeds, enabling them to be able to consume the Bullet Ball Moss. Any moss that falls to the forest floor and is too hard for these crustaceans to eat, are normally the mosses that are able to release their spores. Starting the cycle all over again and ensuring the moss with the strongest spheres continues on. Natives to the forest sometimes use found Bullet Ball Moss as projectiles. Either being thrown or loaded in slingshots or more sophisticated shooting weapons.
