Every city and small village throughout Veargreum is diverse and unique. Despite their differences they all share one thing in common, Wooly Pigeons. These small birds are exceptionally adapted to life in urban environments. As a result there is hardly a city in the country one could visit, where you would not see one of these birds. The reason for their widespread success is in part due to their intelligence. For a bird they are relatively intelligent and were able to see that staying around humanoid settlements meant less predators and more access to food. Even if this food in large part was from trash and leftover foods. Luckily for the Pigeons their stomachs are capable of breaking down and gaining nutrients from almost any material. Their willingness to eat discarded debris also led humanoid settlers into not only tolerating them but domesticating many of them. Then after several generations the Wooly Pigeons not only survived but thrived in urban developments. Sadly some cities now consider these birds vermin and attempt to dispose of them. However, these birds are hardy inside and out. The feathers of a Wooly Pigeon can repel and redirect most physical attacks. Almost as if the feathers are made of shock-absorbing rubber. This means attempting to harm a pigeon will most likely just send them flying unharmed, as if kicking a rubber ball. This durability does come with a price, as they are very poor fliers. Their poor flying means they are most often found scuttling across the ground opposed to roosting high up on rooftops. Wherever you find them it is very rare to find a Wooly Pigeon alone as they are very social creatures. Instead of making actual nests like most birds they will instead huddle up together for warmth and protection. Observers of these creatures even say that the nasal cere on the top of their beaks changes color depending on their mood. Which the birds convey to other members of their flocks as a form of social communication.
