There is an old ghost story told in orphanages around Veargreum, about the cursed doll called the Vitrified Smile. The story tells about a toymaker who made a deal with powerful forces, to make a toy that would watch over and protect children. Well the deal the toymaker made worked and the Vitrified Smile doll was created. This toy appears to be a typical porcelain doll of a young girl, with a sweet smiling face. What was not known to the toymaker was that the doll's protection would work too well. After the dolls were sent out to the toymakers town disappearances and murders began running rampant. The connection was unknown for a while, until the town noticed it was only the parents of children who bought the Vitrified Smile that were dying. It would seem that the Vitrified Smiles were prone to become not just protective of their chosen child but obsessive and dangerous. This obsession would lead the doll to get rid of the children's parents, to insure they had the child all to themselves. Some say the doll would only kill cruel or neglectful parents, while others say it would kill indiscriminately. Whatever story you believe, one thing is true. Nobody wants a visit from a porcelain doll that bears a Vitrified Smile.
