Adventures exploring ancient ruins or temples need to keep a watchful eye out for a cunning arachnid. This particular arachnid, known as the Terrocotta Scorpion, has the tendency to disguise itself as an unassuming brick on a wall. It achieves this thanks to its large front claws taking on the texture and color of whatever stone wall it is hiding amongst. Little hairs along its body pick up dust particles to change its color, aiding in the camouflage. Its general shape is also broad and flat, making it the perfect shape to crawl into narrow square holes. Even the eggs laid by these arachnids are cube shaped. It is believed they are shaped this way to insure they do not roll around in these tight passages. These arachnids hide in this way to avoid larger predators and to surprise unlucky prey items that cross their path. When a prey item does get close enough the stinger at the end of their tail launches forward, poisoning the unlucky prey. The particular venom that the scorpion produces actually petrifies its prey. The then immobilized prey is easy for the Scorpion to eat at their leisure. Unfortunately despite their small size, unwary humanoids can be stung and potentially become petrified. While the scorpions are not looking to actively hunt humanoids, its natural survival instincts can prove deadly for the unprepared.

This CR1/4 creature is called a Terracotta Scorpion and is a Beast that lives mostly within the Ruins.
