Surviving the harsh desert heat is no easy feat for any creature and the Spotted Mipfy is no exception. During the daytime this strange mammal burrows itself beneath the sand with only its insectoid chitin shell visible. Then at night the Mipfy will dig themselves out of the sand, their shaggy fur providing them with excellent protection against the cold desert nights. While active the Mipfys quickly sprint across the dunes in search of small animals and insects to feast on. Their large eyes provide them with superb night vision, allowing them to easily detect their small prey. When in need of hydration Spotted Mipfy have learned to seek out cactus. Once a suitable cactus is found, the Mipfy will stab into them with the horn on the front of their shells. This allows them to get to the sweet juices inside, without the threat of being stabbed by the cactus’s sharp spines. Despite the Mipfys shells being useful they are not actually grown from the Mipfy themselves. They are instead collected around desert oasis’s from a species of desert insect. The previous owner of these shells are large beetles that frequently shed their shells. Over time the Mipfy learned that by utilizing the sticky wax on the underside of these shells, they could stick them to their backs. Providing the Mipfy with a set of armor they otherwise would be lacking. As the Mipfy grow they do have to acquire bigger and bigger shells. The size of the shell is how strength among Mipfys are determined. With the larger the shells the stronger and thus more desirable to a mate a Mipfy is deemed. However, size is not the only thing that matters for Mipfy, as their fighting prowess can also be put to the test. Rival Mipfys often use their horns to sword fight each other to settle disputes. With the Mipfy that becomes injured or turned onto their backs deemed the losers.
