Shredder Shrews act as the garbage disposals of the floating coral islands. Anything and everything this small opportunist can get its hands on is a target. Whether they have to climb coral spires to snag a squirming Coral Carver, or munch on some native flora. Their small size may be useful for climbing, but it does make them a tempting target for larger predators. To combat their small size the Shredder Shrews have a variety of defenses. Most notable is their saw-like rostrum that is covered in teeth. Not only equipped with offensive traits the Shrews also have their back and tails covered in colorful armor plating. This plating is great at protecting their soft bodies from damage and helping them blend into the colorful coral forest. If neither of these defenses work the Shrews rely on their insectoid wings. These wings grow from their front limbs and while not capable of flight serve a different purpose. The hope is that if the Shredder Shrew is cornered by a predator they can simply fan out their wings in order to look larger than they actually are. When not being used for defense the Shredder Shrews use their wings in colorful mating displays. However, if competing over a mate gets too hostile, Shredder Shrew have been known to turn their sharp rostrums on one another in violent fashions.
