It is said that the original idea behind the modern sewage system in Veargreum came not from an engineer but a creature. The creature in question is known as a Sewer Scourge. These reptilians resemble giant rodents and are covered in dense flexible fur-like scales. Apparently long ago these creatures were observed digging out tunnels to change the flow of nearby water sources that threatened to flood their lairs. After witnessing this local humanoids began experimenting with underground water diversion, thus leading to the creation of underground sewers. Despite their namesake Sewer Scourges spend most of their time in the open air beneath the floating city of Geodius. They do still burrow lairs into the floating mountainside but that is mostly to provide shelter from the larger Umbra species that call the skies their home. While they are quite small for Umbra species do not underestimate them. They travel in packs and are equipped with sharp claws and a set of saber fangs. Not only that they are quite intelligent, able to solve complex problems and even speak humanoid languages. Their most dangerous quality however is the toxic fumes they release through their skin. Researchers have yet to find out what causes these fumes but whatever the reason they can be deadly if inhaled for too long.
