High up in the snowy peaks of the Tormek Mountains weary travelers hear tales of the Pine Prowlers. Legend says these monsters are animated pine trees that have become the home for angry fey spirits. The story goes that long ago there was a lush pine forest thriving with life, until foolish villagers started chopping down all of the trees. The fey spirits inhabiting the forest grew angry and began to possess the trees, in order to stop the villagers from completely destroying the forest. However, by the time the fey spirits intervened it was too late. The damage was done and the forest was a shadow of what it once was. Now it is said that these fey spirits still walk these mountains looking for the villagers that wronged them. Unfortunately the Prowlers don’t know how to distinguish between the villagers that wronged them and any other humanoid. This means it is good to know how to tell if the pine tree you are approaching is actually a simple tree or a vengeful fey. A good clue is that Prowlers are typically solitary, so if you see a pine tree all by itself it's better to keep your distance. While Pine Prowlers are aggressive towards humanoids they show no aggression towards native wildlife. This just adds more proof to the story that these monsters truly have a grudge towards all humanoids.
