The coral reefs of Crius’s oceans are full of a wide variety of corals in a plethora of shapes, sizes and colors. Some of these corals are not only beautiful to see but have other unique traits. The Pillarpod for example is a collection of corals that does not remain fixed to one spot but instead walks the reefs on five spindly legs. While they are not expert runners by no means their rudimentary legs work well enough to get them from place to place. While they are able to move they sometimes struggle with where to go. As being a colony of creatures means dozens of minds are battling at all times for control. It is thought the Pillarpods developed this form of locomotion to allow them to flee predators and move to better spots on the reef whenever desired. If they come across a predator they cannot escape, the Pillarpod will eject venomous spines from their body in all directions in hopes it will deter attackers. However, they must use this sparingly as it uses up energy. It also takes them time to grow back the spines after each use and the inbetween time makes them vulnerable. While their spines do leave a rather bad sting, they are not considered dangerous to humanoids. Many beach and reef visitors do however consider them a nuisance to be avoided.
This CR1/8 creature is called a Pillarpod and is a Construct that lives mostly within the Coral Reef.
