You might think the boiling caldera of a volcano is too inhospitable for any life to flourish. This is not the case for the Lusken Chicken who are happiest along the shores of the molten lake. It is quite a common sight to see flocks of Lusken Chickens running back and forth along the molten shores as the lava waves rise and fall. They do this because the lava waves not only bring forth molten rock but also sometimes tiny fish that have been supercharged with fire magic. Consuming these fish not only provides nutrients for the Luskens but also helps protect them from the intense heat of the volcanos. This protection is visible just by looking at the heat resistant scales covering their bodies. However, consuming too many molten fish at a time can overwhelm their bodies with fire magic. Sometimes causing an unlucky Lusken to literally burst into flames. Although their scales provide them with resistance to heat they can still be hurt by direct contact with molten rock. Luckily the antenna on their heads act as heat sensors, giving them an early warning system for upcoming lava swells. If they need to quickly flee an unexpected swell their tiny wings are there to help. While the wings don't allow them to fully fly they are still handy for quick bursts of speed or increasing their jump distances. Another unique feature of the Lusken Chicken is the spiral horn atop their heads. These horns grow slowly throughout the Luskens life, making them a great indicator of the Luskens age.
