These large birds call the edges of volcanic vents their hunting grounds. Thanks to their strong legs and spiked tails they are able to anchor themselves here. After anchoring themselves they begin to search the ash and smog for prey. The prey can be any number of small flying or floating creatures that feed on the magma and minerals inside the volcano. Instead of journeying into the depths of the volcano in search of this prey, the Kelendron simply waits for eruptions and the constant hot air coming from the volcano to launch their prey within reach. Once in reach, the Kelendron uses its long neck to stretch out and snatch the unknowing prey out of the sky. The darker ashen coloration of the Kelendron helps them to hide among the black smoke and fiery embers present here. Making it even harder for their prey to spot them. The prey in which they feed on also allows these birds to withstand the harsh temperatures here. Researchers seem to think the creatures living within the volcanic depths produce a special heat resistant magic that eventually is passed onto the Kelendrons. This is why Kelendrons nest further down the volcano and bring food back to their young hatchlings. Then after the offspring have developed enough heat resistance. They too will journey to the volcanic vents to hunt with the other adults.
