Within the tree trunks in the spring region of the Valley of the Four Seasons lives a peculiar insect. The Gnasher Gnat looks like your typical segmented insect, except for its large head equipped with a pair of rodent-like teeth. These teeth are used by the Gnat to both dig through the thick tree sap and break the shells of hard shelled smaller insect prey. Specialized hairs on their legs also secret an oil that allows them to almost swim through the sticky sap. The reason they are so specially adapted for navigating the tree sap is because the majority of their lives are spent inside of it. The gnats will only emerge from the tree trunks to attract a mate at the end of their life spans. At that point the formerly wingless insect will sprout a pair of wings from their backs, allowing them to take to the night sky. There in the night sky a brilliant display of their golden bioluminescence can be seen to anyone passing by. Their lights do not simply hover in the night sky like tiny stars but form shapes and patterns from the insects' rhythmic flight. After the mating seasons the female Gnats lay their eggs within the tree sap to start the cycle again. Dead gnats are commonly collected at the end of the mating season in order to be crushed up into a fine paste to be used for luminous paints. Here the Gnasher Gnats live on not only in the next generation but in the art, music, and poetry of Veargreums bards.
This CR0 creature is called a Gnasher Gnat and is a Beast that lives mostly within the Valley of the four seasons.
