Within the confines of the Chorus Crater is a parasitic creature that is so abnormal it must be alien. This Flayborn, as they are called, start out as small worm-like animals that are implanted into a host creature through an ovipositor from its parent. Once inside a host animal the young Flayborn will slowly grow as it consumes the host from the inside. As it consumes the host, the worm's DNA also changes to mimic the DNA of its host. So while the worm eats the host its physiology begins to mimic the physical appearance of the host. Until the original host has been consumed and in its place is something much worse. At first the Flayborn will simply eat as much of the host as it can until all that is left is sagging skin. Once the parasite has fully grown into its new skin, it begins the process of making children. Sadly for the other creatures living in the crater the parasite reproduces asexually. Meaning one single individual worm could grow up to create hundreds of offspring all on its own. After the offspring are made the parasite seeks out new hosts to infect with their children, to start the process all over again. Otherwise the juvenile worms will begin consuming the parent Flayborn, if they take too long. With a creature so dangerous it was a surprise to researchers that it had not already left the confines of the crater, in search of new life forms to infect. Luckily for the rest of the world, the worm's biology has adapted to the high radioactive energy found within the crater. Therefore it cannot survive outside of the craters' border. Even so, the local researchers of the Tormek Mountains do their best to monitor this creature's population and habits while in the Crater.
