The Cruel Claws origin is one of cruelty and tragedy. The story goes that a wicked necromancer attempted to sacrifice their poor pet Catamew to one of the Archfiends in Tenarus in order to gain fiendish favor. The resulting betrayal was so great it caused the soul of that poor Catamew to manifest in Tenarus as a dangerous creature. Now It is a common sight to find Cruel Claws on the right hand side of high level devils within Tenarus, standing as a form of status symbol. However, they are not just there for looks but their unique set of abilities that many devils find valuable. For one the eyes of a Cruel Claw can see past any illusion made by fiends, no matter how powerful the illusion. It is believed this power was born from the original Catamew not being able to see the lies of their owner before it was too late. Now this ability allows high up devils to know exactly what they are dealing with. In a land of deception and betrayal that ability is indispensable. Besides seeing through illusions, Cruel Claws also have the ability to eat fiendish magic. When confronted with a yummy source of cursed magic their feline face unhinges and opens wide, spewing out black tendrils. The tendrils then grab the source of magic and pull it into its mouth, no matter the size of the magical source. This is also why only powerful devils are seen with this creature, as weaker demons or devils might find themselves on the receiving end of the Cruel Claws horrifying maw. Too much magical consumption can also result in the Cruel Claws untimely demise. This demise not only spells the end for the demon but everything else in the range of the resulting magical explosion.
