Within the tumultuous plane of Tenarus there lives a group of small, soft bodied creatures equipped with horn shaped metal shells. They usually live in pairs but larger colonies have been reported as well. While wildly varying in shape and size, they usually have a similar shape to their peers in the group they are in. Their small size means they would be easy pickings for most of the stronger fiends that dwell within Tenarus. This danger leads them to seek out the dead bodies of intelligent humanoids or fiends, typically preferring fresher bodies. Once a fitting body is found, the pair of Chromlings will attach themselves to the head of the creature. Where their tendrils start penetrating the flesh and skull until the Chromling pair fuses with their host. Once this is done, the Chromlings will start spreading through the body as a thin, mushroom-like network and start reconstructing it. Closing holes, removing poison from the body, even re-growing limbs and starting the heart again. To prevent premature composting, they use secret chemicals to stop this process. This causes a discoloration of the skin of the host. After this reconstruction is complete, the body is mostly back to functioning normally besides the nervous system and brain. All non-regulatory functions are being taken over by Chromlings. This means the original host has ceased to exist, even though the Chromlings retain the memories and knowledge of the individual. When Chromlings find their way onto the material plane they can often be confused for Tieflings. Due to the creature appearing as horns protruding from their heads. Chromling’s are generally fine with this misunderstanding, as often when a Chromlings true identity is discovered they are killed out of fear. Despite their fiendish origin Chromings simply want to live a life of peace and protection while helping out their chosen town or community.
This CR3 creature is called a Chromling and is a Fiend that lives mostly within the Tenarus.
