Within the Crystal Caverns stories speak of the Chromadaris. These elusive creatures are herbivores who live deep within cave systems, that are abundant in both plant life and rare gems. Sightings are incredibly rare but reports tell of a creature that looks like a mix of mammalian and avian traits. Despite sharing some traits with birds the Chromadaris is flightless. Perhaps at one point the Chromadaris could fly but generations of living completely underground rendered that ability obsolete. Now instead of being able to fly away from threats the Chromadaris possess a different form of defense. In the shape of large gems growing from atop their backs. These beautiful gems not only provide extra armor but also possess an additional magical ability. The gems have the ability to cast powerful illusions in times of danger. The types of illusions vary on the types of gems growing from their backs. As well as the location of the Chromadaris within the cave systems. This illusion projection seems to be limited to adults. As the younger specimens seem to lack the control needed to craft full illusions and can merely make blinding flashes.
