Burrowing through the sandy floor of the Opal Sea lies a voracious pack hunter. The Bloodwinder, named for its crimson red color and its savage nature. These aquatic hunters have a wide flat body made up of thorny tentacles. This shape helps them in digging into the sea bed. While their sharp tentacles are perfect for slicing into prey. Typically when hunting packs of these creatures burst out of the sand near a group of fish in hopes of causing them to panic. In the fishes panic the Bloodwinders surround and shake their bodies side to side. The shaking makes it so their sharp tentacles can slice and saw into the prey. After the prey items are cut into pieces the Bloodwinders are then able to munch up the smaller pieces of flesh left in the water. The drawback of this hunting method is oftentimes Bloodwinders can accidentally cut into their fellow pack members. The common scarring found on most adult Bloodwinders is evidence of this phenomenon. The sharp tentacles are not the only weaponry of the Bloodwinder. They also come equipped with a long sickle shaped tail that carries a potent venom. However, the Bloodwinders are hesitant to use this venom as it uses up a lot of energy to produce. Therefore it is mostly used as a deterrent against larger predators or in moments of extreme fear.
