While hiking in the snowcapped peaks of the Tormek mountains, every smart traveler knows to keep noise to a minimum to avoid sudden avalanches. However, sometimes an avalanche cannot be avoided no matter how cautious the hiker. For in these frigid mountains there exists a deadly hunter, lurking beneath the snow. This hunter is an Ooze, adapted for the cold weather and harsh conditions on these mountain peaks. Known as a Bitter Bile, they have a flat gelatinous body and hundreds of tiny nodules it uses for locomotion. To help it survive against the freezing temperatures and strong winds, it chooses to stay buried beneath the snow layer. Digging beneath the snow is aided by frills along the sides of its body that produce heat. This heat melts just enough of the snow to allow its flat body to slide right beneath the top layer of snow, without disturbing the surface. This stealth is also a tool it uses for its hunts. You see Bitter Biles will lie in wait beneath the snow, until they detect a prey item downhill from them. At that time they will purposely disturb the top layer of snow that has already been loosened by their heat frills, in order to create an avalanche. Then after the avalanche buries the poor prey item the Bile is free to absorb them. As Bitter Biles grow so does their appetite and ability to create bigger and bigger avalanches. So a young Bile can only create small snow drifts while an ancient Bile could unleash an avalanche large enough to bury large creatures like a Wogal.
