Benzoah are gelatinous fish whose domed head can grow to be miles across. Their massive size often leads to sailors confusing them for islands or crashing into them in low light conditions. Any sailors who find themselves marooned atop a Benzoah will be greeted with a unique ecosystem of coral forests and shimmering tide pools. Despite the peaceful nature of the Benzoah one must be careful spending too much time atop their backs. As deadly wildlife often lives and hunts atop their backs. Deadly hitchhikers are not the only threat, as the environment is prone to sudden flooding. Caused by the Benzoah lowering or raising themselves out of the water. This can cause sudden flooding for any visitors. If one wished to get off a Benzoah and back to dry land, you would simply need to wait until their yearly migration route took them closer to the mainland. This migration is due to the Beonzoah being quite bad swimmers and typically resigning themselves to riding the ocean currents. In fact the Unchained Isles of Veargreum are simply the largest known gathering of Benzoah. Which is why the Isles location on a map is prone to changing throughout the year. While unlucky sailors might occasionally get marooned, other aquatic races like the Kandjii often make their homes along the backs of these gentle giants. Benzoahs don’t just function as ferries for smaller creatures but have a crucial other function as well. In fact they act as a natural water purifier and aquatic plant disperser for the oceans of Crius. Their sides act as filters, taking in sea water and using it to fill the various tidepools along its back. Eventually the water is dispelled back into the ocean using the same filtration system. Making the water cleaner and spreading any plant seeds that might have grown in the Benzoads tide pools or coral jungles back into the oceans. Benzoahs create a transparent semipermeable barrier around their domed heads. This barrier protects both the top of the Benzoahs head as well as its various hitchhikers from the harsh sun rays.
